Let’s be clear about something, renovation and remodeling, while they are often mistakenly thought to be interchangeable as terms, are actually very different things. Renovations are simply cosmetic changes used just for specific rooms typically. So for a kitchen renovation, we might change out the countertops, add new cabinets, repaint the walls, maybe even go so far as to put in new flooring. But we haven’t remodeled that room. When we are remodeling, we are making structural changes to the layout of a building and creating something new. So let’s say you’ve decided you want to remodel that same kitchen. We may come in and open up the space by knocking down a wall between the kitchen and the dining room to create an open floor plan rather than two individual rooms. Perhaps, you’ve decided you no longer want that sunroom off the back of the house, because you want more space for the kitchen, so you want us to knock down that outer wall, while building a new outside wall of the house where the screen and door used to be for the sunroom. When we remodel, we create an entirely new space. When you decide to remodel your home, you are adding more value to the overall price of reselling your home. Remodeling is also your best solution for a home that’s been laid out poorly, and does not fit the needs of your household.

Remodeling jobs, especially full home remodels are more complex than renovations, so they require a contractor, like Kagan Construction, who has a higher level of expertise. Why would you need a full home remodel? Perhaps you’ve had the good luck to buy a foreclosure for a good price, but the home is not laid out to your liking. Maybe you’ve lived in the same home for 20 plus years and the layout of the home no longer really works for your family. Perhaps you are ready to sell your home, but it’s so dilapidated you feel you can’t get a good price for it.

At Kagan Construction, we can actually come in and fully alter the design, layout and function of your home. It’s an exciting process and we love being involved in whole home remodels. One of the reasons we are so good at it is that at Kagan 90% of the work we do is done by employees. A lot of construction companies sub out their work to different subcontractors. We use employees for the bulk of it instead, and this means we control the work and the workflow, practically everything is done in house. That way we control the quality in a much better way than we could using subcontractors. All of our workers are vetted, have been through a background check and most of them have been with us for more than five years.
